French shoe label Roger Vivier has revealed the launch of a mini-me footwear line, following the increasing popularity of designer childrenswear.

Roger Vivier is the latest designer delving into the realm of childrenswear, with a junior collection inspired by its iconic adult styles for release in March.

WWD reports December 19 that the French footwear label will introduce a line called Roger Vivier - Jeune Fille, or, in English, Roger Vivier - Girl, to its international stores. The line will be a reworking of the house's brightly colored patent leather adult ballerinas, which carry the brand's signature buckle.

Children's varieties will include removable ankle straps and sizes will range from 27 to 34 (European sizes). Proceeds from the line, where shoes are priced at €240, will go to a variety of children's charities across the globe, such as Save the Children in Italy and New Yorkers for Children in the US.

Roger Vivier's decision to create a mini-me style children's line is in contrast to designer Oscar de la Renta's recently announced kidswear venture. Earlier this month it was announced the label has taken on childswear expert Catherine Monteiro de Barros as vice president of design for children's wear, with the in-house collection currently in development.

Monteiro de Barros has explained she wants the line to appeal to those who "want their children to look like children," ruling out creations inspired by the label's extravagant red carpet gowns.

Roger Vivier and Oscar de la Renta aren't the only two designers to have embraced the ongoing surge of children's fashion.

Italian fashion house Versace recently opened its first boutique in Milan dedicated to kids' line Young Versace, which was unveiled at international childrenswear exhibition Pitti Immagine Bimbo in Florence back in June.

New York-based creator Vera Wang also announced last week the August launch of a children's apparel and jewelry line called Princess Vera Wang at US departments store Kohl's.

Great news for the likes of Suri Cruise, the five-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, whose mature dress sense has seen her hailed a style icon and singer-turned-designer Victoria Beckham's five-month old daughter Harper Seven Beckham, who has already been spotted in Chloé and Stella McCartney.
